Frequently Asked Questions

How should I prepare before my session?

Drink plenty of water before your session to avoid dehydration. Please note that the nearest public restrooms are located next to the ticket office (and in the restaurant for its customers). We kindly ask you to arrive 5 minutes before your session, ideally already wearing your swimsuit. If you arrive late, we will unfortunately not be able to extend your visit into the next session.

Are children allowed?

Unfortunately, we cannot welcome minors in our saunas. In any case, sauna use is strongly discouraged for children. Take some time for yourself and leave the little ones at the resort for a ski lesson.

What should I bring with me?

Bring your swimsuit and ideally two towels: one to sit on in the sauna and another to dry off after getting wet. Drinking water is provided, but feel free to bring your own water bottle. Storage boxes are available for your belongings; however, we recommend not bringing valuables. We accept no responsibility for loss or theft.

Should I start with cold or heat?

There is no right or wrong answer. It depends on your personal preferences. We recommend at least three rounds of each when possible.

How long should I stay in the sauna and cold bath?

We recommend staying in the sauna until you feel “comfortably uncomfortable.” For some, this may be 5–10 minutes; for others, 15–20 minutes. If you feel dizzy, lightheaded, or nauseous, please leave the sauna immediately to cool down and, most importantly, rehydrate. It is important to let your body cool and to rest.

The same advice applies to the cold bath: push slightly beyond your comfort zone, but don’t set a fixed duration. When you start to feel numbness, it’s time to get out.

How often should I go to the sauna?

There’s no concept of “too much sauna,” but at least one session per week is ideal. Three sessions per week are often recommended.

What about hygiene?

Please take a shower or rinse off using the bucket near the cold bath before entering the sauna or cold bath. It is customary to rinse off between each round. Always sit on a towel in the sauna to protect the bench.

The sauna is, of course, cleaned daily, and the water is regularly refreshed.

How do I create steam in the sauna?

A bucket of water and a ladle are provided to pour water over the hot stones and create steam. Only pour water if the staff has given you permission. It is also polite to ask the other sauna users for consent before adding water. Please do not add anything to the water (such as essential oils) without prior authorization.

What is a sauna hat?

A sauna or banya hat, worn wet or dry, helps keep your head cool and ensures a more even warming of the body. It also protects your hair from drying out and becoming fragile due to the heat. Sauna hats are available for rent during your session.

Can I roll in the snow if it’s snowing?

Rolling in the snow before, during, or after your session is done at your own risk. Please note that Hautacam is an active area, and be sure to respect other users.

Where can I recover after my session?

Our seating area can be used after your session to rest and rehydrate. Please be mindful of other users and know when to give up your spot for the next guests.

When is sauna use not recommended?

Sauna use is not recommended for people with:

  • Certain heart conditions
  • Very high or very low blood pressure
  • Infection or fever
  • Pregnancy
  • Epilepsy
  • Diabetes
  • Intoxication, drug use, or a hangover

If in doubt, please consult your doctor before booking.

Do I need to book in advance, or do you accept walk-ins?

We recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment, but we do accept walk-ins subject to availability.

What should I do if I can no longer attend my booked session?
